After Ultrasound-guided Biopsy

Once the procedure is complete, the nurse will apply pressure to the biopsy site for several minutes. Then a dressing will be applied and written instructions on how to take care of your biopsy site will be given to and reviewed with you.

The procedure requires little recovery time and there is no significant scarring to the breast.

Most women feel fine after the procedure.

Acetaminophen may be used for relief of any discomfort. An icepack may also be helpful and should be placed inside of your bra for best results.

It is a good idea to avoid exercise or strenuous activity for 24 hours following your procedure. If possible, you should go home after the procedure and relax. If you notice any bleeding, swelling, redness or heat, notify us or your physician.
