No preparation is required for Calcium Scoring. When you're taken back to the imaging room, some EKG electrodes will be attached to your chest. They will measure when your heart is between beats -- the best time for the CT images to be acquired.
You will be asked to lie on the table attached to the CT scanner. The table will slide into the opening in the scanner while a cylinder around the opening rotates around your body. You'll be asked to hold your breath for a few seconds while the scanner acquires about 200 images of your heart.
You can make an appointment for a Calcium Scoring test yourself. No physician order is required. Call Piedmont Athens Regional Imaging Services at 706-475-1000.
