Athens Regional Health System

Amputee Rehabilitation

The staff of Athens Regional Rehabilitation offers a comprehensive approach to amputee rehabilitation. They focus on the care of each patient and coordinate with community services as appropriate.

Referral to social services, vocational therapy, occupational therapy, prosthetists, orthotists, nutritionists, diabetes nurse educators and wound care specialists is common. A multidisciplinary approach to each patient insures each patient's needs are met.

A physician's order is needed to start physical therapy. From there, a formal evaluation and recommendations is given that leads to a customized treatment plan.

Amputee Rehabilitation Program History

Our amputee rehabilitation program was formerly the Amputee Clinic. This clinic served the prosthetic and functional needs of amputees for more than 20 years. Due to improved medical care and advanced surgical techniques, the number of amputees in the area has declined and the clinic was disbanded. However, the same team of therapists remains at ARMC with more than 46 years of combined experience.
