Athens, Ga. – It took two years, multiple surgeries at Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center and extensive home health care before Benton Darvin Branch, 52, was able to return to his job after falling 12 feet from scaffolding while working on his house.
Having suffered multiple fractures of both legs and ankles, Branch’s journey to recovery started in fall 2014. Bound to his bed at the time, Piedmont Home Health nurses and therapists would visit his home in Comer to help him through his recovery.
By the end of January 2015, Branch was able to walk short distances with crutches and no longer needed physical therapy. A few months later, he developed an infection which required additional surgery. The Piedmont Home Health team came to his aid bringing antibiotic therapy, wound care and other services to Branch’s home. Two more surgeries and countless visits with the home health team later, Branch is feeling better than ever.
"We’re so proud of Darvin for his perseverance," Renee Berryman, Piedmont Home Health nurse, said. "It has been an incredibly long journey and we’re happy to have helped him recover from his injury. I couldn’t have been happier when I received his call letting me know he finally was able to return to work."
Piedmont Home Health provides one-on-one care in the comfort of the patient’s home. Nurses are available around the clock to help patients like Branch achieve function and mobility goals. Services offered include wound care, infusion therapy, skilled nursing as well as physical, occupational and speech therapy. Home health services typically are covered by Medicare, Medicaid and many other insurance plans.
