Neurological Rehabilitation

The Adult Outpatient Neurological Rehabilitation Program at Piedmont Athens Regional offers a comprehensive treatment program that benefits patients who've lost function due to injury or conditions related to the nervous system. Some common diagnoses such as cerebrovascular accident (stroke), brain injury, spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis and Guillain-Barré syndrome.

Physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech language pathologists and social workers work closely with referring physicians and vocational rehabilitation specialists. As treatment progresses, the team routinely meets to update treatment plans. This ongoing care encourages continued success.

Our focus is to design individualized treatment plans based on the goals of each patient. Family involvement is encouraged and is crucial for positive outcomes in rehabilitation.

Physicians refer patients to our program. This may occur after being discharged from an acute care or rehabilitation hospital.

Specialized Neuro Rehabilitation Treatment Programs

In addition to our comprehensive program, we also offer specialized neuro rehabilitation treatment programs:

Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT)

The Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT) is useful for people who are experiencing a reduced ability to communicate due to diminished voice. Illnesses which may results in this dysfunction include, but are not limited to: Parkinson's Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Cerebral Palsy, brain injury and stroke.

Treatment consists of an intensive multi-session program that improves functional verbal communication with long-term carryover.

Low Vision/Neurologically Acquired Vision Dysfunction Treatment

This vision therapy is designed for individuals whose vision has been affected by eye diseases such as macular degeneration, cataracts and glaucoma and for individuals with vision concerns after a brain injury or stroke.
