Stroke Risk Reduced by New Procedure Offered at Athens Regional Medical Center
In September 2013, the cardiology team at Athens Regional Medical Center became the first group in Northeast Georgia to perform the new Lariat® procedure, which dramatically reduces the risk of stroke caused by the heart condition atrial fibrillation.
Athens Regional Medical Center Generates More Than $798 million to Athens’ Economy
Athens Regional Medical Center generated close to $800 million in revenue in 2011 for the local economy according to a recent report by the Georgia Hospital Association. The report also found that Athens Regional provided approximately $29 million in uncompensated care while sustaining more than 6,070 full-time jobs throughout Athens and the rest of the state.

Athens Regional Medical Center (ARMC) earned the American Heart Association’s (AHA) Mission: Lifeline Bronze Quality Achievement Award. The Bronze Quality Achievement Award is the highest level of recognition achievable by any hospital for a quarter’s performance in 2011.
Athens Regional Doctor Named ‘Mother of the Year’
Athens Regional Medical Center would like to recognize and congratulate Dr. Ruby Cheves upon being awarded by American Mothers, Inc. (AMI), as its 2012 National Mother of the Year. Cheves was awarded the Mother of the Year title at the American Mothers Annual Convention in Washington D.C.

Marilyn Farmer Awarded J.W. Fanning Humanitarian of the Year Award
J.W. Fanning dedicated his life to community service and was a member of the Hospital Authority of Clarke County, serving as Chair from 1972-1973. Today, the Athens Regional Foundation continues his legacy through the “J.W. Fanning Humanitarian of the Year Award.”
