A True NICU Fairy Tale

True NICU Fairy Tale

Once upon a time is how fairy tales begin, but these are not ordinary tales. They are the true life stories of Jacob and Danuri, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) patients at Athens Regional Medical Center.

About 10 percent of babies born at Athens Regional spend time in the NICU for reasons like being born prematurely or with an infection, congenital condition, or other complication.

Jacob’s mom, Mitzi, says, "It’s hard to explain what a small world the NICU becomes when you don’t know the future of your child. There are no words to express how important it is to have the best equipment and supplies and incredibly concerned and caring doctors and nurses."
